Dooley Receives 2017 National Blue Ribbon Award
Today was an AWESOME day! Thomas Dooley Elementary School was recognized as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. Betsy DeVos, U.S. Secretary of Education, announced that we won this award in the category of an exemplary high performing school. Schools in this category are among their state’s highest performing schools measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Across the nation, only 342 schools received this coveted award today. 16 of them were from Illinois. We are ecstatic to find out that we are among the highest achieving schools in the state of Illinois!
This award proves that working together as a school community; we can achieve anything! Staff, students and parents working toward the same goal and supporting each other along the way is one of the reasons we have excelled. Our School Board, Superintendent and Cabinet continue to guide us and provide Dooley with the resources needed to reach our greatest potential. We work hand in hand with the district directors, coaches and mentors to ensure we are using best practices to teach our students. This award is not only a celebration for Dooley School but for District 54 as well.
Today we celebrated in style. The school was decked out in blue along with our staff and students. We had an assembly that was attended by the Board of Education, Superintendent and District 54 Cabinet. The students entered the assembly under a blue balloon arch holding blue pom-pons. During the assembly the children sang songs, danced, watched a video about Dooley School and listened to the School Board President, Mrs. Prusnick talk about how proud she is of all our students. This assembly was truly one of the best days at Dooley School.
We are not finished celebrating. The staff has organized “A Week of Blue” in honor of our Blue Ribbon. Please read Dooley Blue Ribbon Week 2017.pdf about what we have planned for our amazing students. These activities are closed for our staff and students only. Parents please note on Wednesday, October 4, we have time set aside for you to come and celebrate with your child(ren) at Dooley. Please refer to the flyer for details.
