Principal’s Message- October 27, 2017

The staff and students are excited to be celebrating Halloween next week at Dooley!  Thank you to our fabulous PTA for providing exciting parties for our students.  We are so lucky to have such a strong and involved parent community.

Last Call – Blue Ribbon Spirit Wear

Order forms are due on October 31.  If you are interested in ordering the limited edition spirit wear, please turn order forms into the office by Tuesday.  We have attached the flyer for your convenience.

Food Drive

Dooley School is running a drive to help supply D54’s Food Pantry.  The drive will be running all next week.  Send items next week to school if you would like to participate.  Please see the attached flyer for more information and/or see previous post.

STAMP Testing

Students in our Dual Language Program grades 3-6 will be taking the STAMP test this upcoming week.

Halloween

Our Halloween celebration is coming!  The students are so excited for the PTA parties and the parade.  Our celebration is on Tuesday, October 31st.  Please follow the reminders below…

  • K-6 students must bring their costumes to school and change after lunch.
  • K-6 students can put make-up and hair spray on at home before school begins.
  • Lunch hours are as normal.
  • Party Planners/Helpers are allowed in the rooms to set up at 12:40.
  • Parade begins at 1:00.
  • Parents can view the parade by standing up and down Norwood Street OR by the front doors of the school.
  • In case of inclement weather, parents will view the parade inside the gym.
  • Dress your child for the weather since we will be parading outside (Dress them warm, it is supposed to be cold on Halloween).  If a jacket is sent, your child will wear it during the parade.
  • PTA parties begin following the parade.
  • Only PTA Party Planners and Helpers are permitted at the parties.
  • Dismissal is at 3:00 – students will wear their costumes home.

In choosing an appropriate costume for your child to wear at school, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • No fake blood, gore, scary costumes or costumes depicting violence
  • No weapons or “look-alikes” of any kind (squirt guns, chains, whips, plastic swords, etc.)
  • Ensure that costumes are appropriate and inoffensive to all ages at our school
  • Keep make-up to a minimum (there is only a short time given to students to change into costume)
  • No one may wear costumes to school in the morning
  • Be certain that your child can see through any mask or head covering

Schaumburg Parent University – November classes

Schaumburg Parent University (SPU) is designed to involve more parents in the life of the school, to strengthen family relationships, and to improve parenting skills that will ultimately result in improved student success academically, socially and emotionally. There are two evening programs scheduled for November.

  • Your Kids Can Be Resilient! Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor Meghan Rietz will teach parents methods that can improve a child’s ability to deal with adverse situations and events. This presentation is for adults only, but free childcare is available. The program is from 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.
  • Family Literacy Night. This event is for parents and students in early childhood through second grade to engage in a variety of fun activities that revolve around reading and writing. This hands-on activity will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.
