Principal’s Message- November 15, 2017

We are celebrating American Education Week. We can’t thank enough all who work in education AND all those who support our schools.  All the work we do together helps continue to really makes a difference in educating our children.  Thank you for partnering with us, we couldn’t do this important work without you by our side.

Today is School Board Member Recognition Day. District 54 School Board members include President Mary Kay Prusnick, Char Kegarise, Bob Kaplan, Bill Harper, Barb Hengels, Jim Pye, and Ken Van Dyke. These committed people volunteer their time to ensure the success of every child in District 54 and we owe them our thanks!

Parent Portal and Report Cards

Report cards will be available to view through the parent portal on November 21. If you haven’t signed up for the parent portal, you will receive a phone call from our secretaries to assist you with the process. If you haven’t signed in to the portal in a while, your account may be locked up and will need to be reactivated.  Please go on and check to make sure you are able to get into the portal.  If you can’t, please call 847-357-5100 to get your account reactivated.  If you need a paper copy of the report card, please call the office at 847-357-6250.

Delay in the 5Essentials Survey

Last week I sent you a link to the Illinois State Board of Education’s 5Essentials Survey, which was supposed to go live today. Unfortunately, the Illinois State Board of Education sent an email last night announcing that the survey has been delayed. In case you were planning to take the survey today, it is currently not working and the state has not set a new date. Our plan had been to have students take the survey after Thanksgiving. That may also change, based on the state’s timeline. I will let you know when the survey is up and running, as we do value your feedback.

Reminder…District 54 Cold Weather Response Plan

In order to help parents better prepare for the severe cold weather and snow we often get during winters in our community, I wanted to share with you the District 54 Severe Cold Weather Response Plan. Though District 54 makes every effort to keep our schools open and operational, circumstances beyond our control may dictate school closings.
