Principal’s Message- October 26, 2018

Tuesday’s Trick or Trot was a great success. Students completed 550 laps!   It was fun to see so many students and families staying active after school. Thank you to all who participated in this event!

Thank you for sending in donations for Dooley’s Fall Food Drive supporting SD54’s Food Pantry.  Please continue to send in non-perishable items through October 30.

Vision and Hearing

Vision and hearing screening will be taking place at Dooley on Tuesday October 30.

Students in grades 2, 4, 6 and special education students will have vision screening and students in K, 1, 2, 3 and special education students will have hearing screening. It is important to note that vision screening at school is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by a doctor. Children who wear glasses and/or under the care of an eye doctor do not receive vision screening at school. Please feel free to contact the school nurse anytime during the school year for a vision or hearing screening if you have a concern.

Dooley Fall Food Drive

School District 54 Food Pantry is partnering with Alexian Brothers Women & Children’s Hospital for our food drive.  Please bring food items from October 22nd – October 30thPlease see the food drive flyer for more information.

Halloween

Dooley’s Halloween celebration will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 31st.  Students must bring their costumes to school on that day.  Please make certain that students are able to change into their costumes by themselves within a reasonably short time.

We will have a costume parade that begins promptly at 12:45 p.m.  If weather permits, our parade will be outside.  We will parade outside of the building exiting the front doors, down Norwood Street to Bradford and back to the school.  Parents are welcome to watch our parade from the designated area outside the front of the school OR line up along Norwood Street.  Our staff and students enjoy spectators along the route.  In case of inclement weather, parents are invited to watch the parade in the gym at 12:45 p.m.

Halloween is a fun and special time of year for many children.  In order to ensure the safety and well-being of our children, please keep in mind the following considerations:

  • Costumes may not be worn to school
  • Weapons and ‘look alike’ weapons are prohibited
  • Refrain from costumes that depict violence (no fake blood or gore, please)
  • No excessive make up should be worn to school
  • Do not bring hair coloring sprays to school
  • Be certain your child can see through his/her mask

A party arranged by the PTA Halloween party planners and helpers will take place following the parade in classrooms.  Only party planners and party helpers who are assigned to support in classrooms will be allowed in the building during parties.

Dismissal for Wednesday will be at the regular time (2:30 p.m.).  Students will not be expected to change clothes prior to their departure.  We appreciate your support in following these guidelines so Halloween is enjoyable for all.
