Principal’s Message- December 7, 2019
This week, our kindergarten students worked on creating winter landscapes using paint sticks and cutout shapes. They learned how to use space to show depth in their work. The picture above was created by Lilia in Mrs. Herbig’s class.
Our students have finished winter MAP testing, with the exception of a few make up tests that will happen early next week. We are excited to see the growth that students have made. MAP reports will be sent home prior to winter break.
The due date for lunch orders has been extended to Thursday, December 13th. Please send order forms and payment with your child or drop off in the office by Thursday.
Dooley’s Got Talent 2019 Updates
By now, all the audition participants must have received the confirmation email. If not, please contact Akiko as soon as possible. Please note that the registration is now closed and there will be NO WALK IN ACCEPTED ON THE DAY OF THE AUDITION. Please understand this is to keep the organization as smooth as possible due to the popularity. Also, we still need volunteers! If you can help, please contact Akiko Okada.
At the beginning of this school year, Dooley families received a copy of The Orange Frog Family Reading Guide. Beginning next week, we will spend time with our students focusing on a variety of Happiness Tactics and Habits. You can read more about these on page 77 of your Family Reading Guide. This week our entire building focused on practicing ‘Fun Fifteen’. This tactic is designed to oxygenate your brain, release endorphins and strengthen the belief that your behavior matters. Dooley students enjoyed some extra movement breaks throughout the week to get their heartrates pumping. Stay tuned to find out what next week’s Happiness Tactic will be!
6th Grade Parent Night at Addams Junior High
Throughout the month of November, Ms. Phelan, the assistant principal at Jane Addams Junior High has visited the elementary feeder schools in preparation for next school year. Sixth grade students received an overview of a typical day in junior high, learned about the different elective course options and extracurricular opportunities, and had an opportunity to have their questions answered. Next year’s scheduling is around the corner, so be on the lookout for your child’s elective selection sheet. The elective course selection sheets are due back on December 14. In addition to helping the students adjust, the junior highs are also offering a parent night to be held on Wednesday, December 12 from 6:00-7:00pm where you can come and learn about your child’s school for next year. For our Dual Language and Chinese Immersion families, there will be a presentation from 5:30-6:00pm that will provide specific information about the program your child is enrolled in.
