Principal’s Message- April 22, 2019
We hope all of you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend. We were excited to see our students this morning. Please see below for important information regarding the last day of school and summer camp opportunities.
Last Day of School
Due to the number of severe weather days when school was cancelled this year, the District 54 School Board officially set June 6, 2019 as the last day of school. This will be a half-day of school to make up for the half-day missed when school was cancelled Jan. 30. Students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. on June 6, 2019.
Summer of 54
What did you do over your summer? This fall, through the “Summer of 54” camp opportunities, your answer could be: “I learned how to play lacrosse, used the design process to create and design, and/or created different forms of art using digital and non-digital mediums. The goal of the “Summer of 54” is to provide students opportunities to be active, while enhancing their creative and innovative spirt. Camp opportunities offer:
- A range of fun camps for a variety of interests for students in 1st through 8th grade
- Courses with hands-on, project-based curricula
- Instruction by District 54 teachers in a positive environment
- An opportunity to conduct experiments using tools, equipment and technology used within the real-world

Summer Camp Expo – April 24
Visit tables to learn about the various summer camps and programs available for your child in Schaumburg and the surrounding area. This event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on April 24, 2019, at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. Summer Camp Expo flyer
To register please visit the SPU Online Form or for more information, contact Meg Kwak at 847-357-6586 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Leave your name, contact information, the number of children needing childcare (free) and your child’s school.
Students interested in playing the trombone, trumpet, clarinet, flute, cello, viola, or violin should return the Enrollment Form to school, or turn it in at one of the enrollment meetings (listed below). No previous music experience is necessary to play an instrument. Parents and students should attend the meeting at the junior high the student will eventually attend, where more information will be available:
Addams Junior High – Monday, April 29 (7:00 pm)
Mead Junior High – Monday, April 29 (7:00 pm)
Eisenhower Junior High – Tuesday, April 30 (7:00 pm)
Keller Junior High – Tuesday, April 30 (7:00 pm)
Frost Junior High – Wednesday, May 1 (7:00 pm)
Band and orchestra lessons will start in September.If you have any questions, please contact the band or orchestra teacher at your school.
District 54 Instrumental Music Staff
District 54 Summer Band and Orchestra
Registration for District 54’s Summer Band and Orchestra program has begun! Students who have completed fifth, sixth, or seventh grade and have had lessons on their instrument in the District 54 instrumental music program for at least one school year are eligible to enroll. Summer Band and Orchestra will take place July 8-25 (Mondays-Thursdays) at Addams Junior High School. Registration forms are available from any instrumental music teacher or at sd54.org/resources/instrumental-music. District 54 Education Foundation 2019 Memorial Grant applications
The District 54 Education Foundation proudly offers memorial grants for District 54 students to cultivate an academic, cultural or athletic interest. The grants are intended for children from families facing extenuating financial circumstances.
Applications for 2019 Memorial Grants are due Friday, May 3 to the child’s school social worker. Click the link below for the application and additional information.

Lou Malnati’s – May 1
The Foundation is partnering with Lou Malnati’s in Schaumburg to raise funds for students. Eat at or order from either of the Lou Malnati’s restaurants in Schaumburg on May 1, and 20% of total sales will be donated to the District 54 Education Foundation.
