October 15, 2024

It was another fantastic week at Dooley School!  We enjoyed partnering with our Schaumburg Police Department for our Walk and Roll to School event on Wednesday. It was so nice to see our students walking and biking to school on the beautiful morning.
We ended the day on Wednesday with a our Turkey Trot event. Thank you to Mr. Pappas for organizing this fun opportunity for our students!

As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, October 14th. We look forward to seeing our students back in school on Tuesday. Enjoy the long weekend!

2024 Personal Assessment of Core Competency

District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the District 54 Personal Assessment of Core Competency on Monday, September 30th.  The window to complete the survey will close on Friday, October 18th. Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.

Halloween

Dooley’s Halloween celebration will take place on the afternoon of Thursday, October 31st.  Students should bring their costumes to school on that day. Costumes must go over their clothing. We will have a costume parade that begins at 1:15 PM, weather permitting. We will parade outside of the building exiting the front doors, down Norwood Street to Bradford and back to the school. Families are welcome to watch our parade from the designated area  outside the front of the school OR line up along Norwood Street. Our staff and students enjoy spectators along the route. In order to ensure the safety and well-being of our children, please keep in mind the following considerations:

  • Weapons and “look alike” weapons are prohibited
  • Refrain from costumes that depict violence ( no fake blood or gore, please)

A party arranged by the PTA volunteers will take place following the parade, in classrooms. Only party volunteers who are assigned to support classrooms will be allowed in the building during parties. We look forward to a fun Halloween!

Erin’s Law

Again this year, we will be implementing a child sexual abuse prevention program in our schools as the result of the passage of Public Act 097-1147, also known as Erin’s Law. This law expanded upon previous legislation and required child sexual abuse prevention education for children beginning in pre-kindergarten and continuing through all grade levels. Our students will be participating in lessons in their classrooms in October.  Please read the attached letter for more information.  Contact us  with any specific questions.
