Two students holding ceramics from STEAM Night and Japanese floral arrangements

On Tuesday, many of our students had artwork on display at the SD54 STEAM Night.  We had fun viewing art and projects from across our District.  Additionally, our kindergarten students put on a beautiful concert on Wednesday.  Thank you to Mrs. Conrad and Mrs. Thomas for their hard work preparing for these events.

All students participated in an assembly on Wednesday.  During the assembly students learned about the art of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging.  Students were attentive listeners and asked many great questions during this informative presentation.

Our spotlight for today is Mrs. Takahashi.  Mrs. Takahashi is a bilingual resource teacher.  She supports multiple grade levels in both English and Japanese and sponsors a variety of clubs.  We hope you enjoy Mrs. Takahashi’s Highlight

We are looking forward to celebrating our teachers next week during Teacher Appreciation Week!

Spring MAP Testing

Spring NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing continues next week.  All students take one reading and one math assessment.  We know that this data point, along with other data gathered in the classrooms can help us to better understand how students are progressing and how to best support them.  Thank you for your continued support at home to ensure your child can do their best and show their learning. We are excited to see the growth of our Dooley Dragons!

  • Monday, May 8th:  Math MAP – 2nd grade
  • Tuesday, May 9th:  Reading MAP – 1st, 5th and 6th grades
  • Wednesday, May 10th: Reading MAP – 2nd grade

Field Day

Dear Dooley Families,

I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching another action packed school year with all of the children from Dooley Elementary School. As the end of our school year is approaching, it is that time to begin our planning for Field Day. Dooley’s Field Day is a day to celebrate all of the hard work and accomplishments that the students have achieved throughout the past school year. On Field Day, all of our students have the opportunity to participate in games and activities.  Our Field Day has been a success in the past due to our devoted parents and Dooley volunteers.

Throughout the day, there are many games and activities stationed throughout the school for all of our students to participate in. Teachers and students rotate and are allotted a designated time at each station as the day progresses.  In the past, parents have graciously volunteered their time to help manage the stations and to make this day as smooth as possible for all of the kids. Please know that parents will be facilitating the stations, so you would not be able to bring younger children with you.

This school year, Field Day will be Monday May 22, 2023. We also have a rain date on Thursday May 25, 2023    If you are interested in helping manage stations and games for students on Field Day please fill out the Google Form.  If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me through phone or e-mail. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on Field Day!

Sincerely,

Mr. pappas
