We are looking forward to having our students share their goals at our fall conferences next week.  If you still need to select a conference time, please see the link below.  Monday also kicks off our PTA virtual fall book fair!

We are excited to highlight Mrs. Vandebogart’s 5th graders this week.  Students had show and tell on a class Padlet.  It was fun to learn a little more about our students!  We hope you enjoy watching their videos, too.  Room 118 Padlet

D54 Revised Reopening Plan

As you know, the COVID-19 Global Pandemic is the most significant public health crisis our society has faced in recent times. Throughout the year, District 54 has navigated the changing circumstances, unprecedented challenges and evolving guidance and information. We thank our employees, our students and their families for their support and dedication to children.

Our commitment has always been to resume in-person learning when health and safety conditions enable us to do so. At this time, we are offering families the opportunity to send their children back to school under a modified hybrid model. At the same time, families will continue to have the option of full-remote learning throughout the pandemic. Every attempt will be made to keep students in both the remote and in-person models with their current teachers.

The hybrid model includes two full days of in-person instruction and three days of remote learning each week. This hybrid model will allow us to lower class sizes and adhere to social distancing guidance. In addition, various safety protocols have been developed to protect our students and staff, including a daily screener, the requirement of masks and temperature checks.

As required by Governor Pritzker’s Restore Illinois Plan, a 100% return to in-person learning will not occur until there is broad access to a safe and effective vaccine, a highly effective treatment and/or when there are no new cases over a sustained period of time.

Full details can be found in the Reopening D54 Plan (Spanish Reopening D54 Plan). We have also created a Reopening District 54 Video, which can be shared with your children to help them better visualize the school day. A Spanish Video is also available.

Parents/guardians please log in to families.sd54.org using your portal login information by Tuesday, Oct. 6, and select full remote or hybrid in-person for each child (see page 3 of the Reopening District 54 Plan for more information).

Again, thank you for your support. Please contact the Dooley Main Office at 847-357-6250 if you have specific questions.

Pumpkins On Parade

Over the past couple of years, it has become a fun tradition for our students to decorate pumpkins with their classmates.  We enjoy seeing how creative our students can be, watching them collaborate, and taking time to view all of the pumpkins in our school.  While we cannot be together to decorate our pumpkins this year, we would thought it would be fun for families to participate in decorating pumpkins and bringing them to our school for viewing.  We encourage families to decorate a pumpkin together.  Pumpkins can be dropped off at the school on Thursday, October 8th anytime between 1:00 and 6:30. When dropping off your pumpkin, please have it in your trunk for a contactless pick up by a staff member.  We will display pumpkins on the perimeter of the school.  We encourage you to take a picture of your pumpkin and post it on our Pumpkin Padlet.  Viewing pumpkins on the Padlet is a safe way to see all pumpkins from the comfort of your home. Pumpkins will be discarded when they become mushy or when the squirrels begin to feast.

Lunches Available

Recently the US Department of Agriculture approved the extension of the Summer Food Service Program.  This program allows all students, regardless of income levels, to take advantage of our free milk and lunch program.  Lunches are available on Tuesday and Thursday each week.  Please contact our building office at 847-357-6250 if you would like to participate. It is helpful for us to know in advance if you would like to pick up milk and lunch for your children so that we can be sure we have adequate food available.

Device Support

Our Technology Department has been working to support students and staff as we all learn and work remotely. We understand that some families are experiencing slow speeds or problems with their providers, and we ask you to report that directly to your provider.

People experiencing problems with District 54 technology (Chromebooks and iPads for students) should email [email protected] so that we can troubleshoot the problem via phone or email. If the problem cannot be resolved, we have a technology drop-off program. To schedule an appointment to drop off a broken laptop, iPad or other device, you must first email [email protected].  Please do not stop by without an appointment. By making an appointment, we can abide by the rules of social distancing and ensure we have a replacement device ready for you when you arrive.
