The weather this weekend will be perfect for our SD54 Virtual Run to Read.  Please be sure to post your pictures on social media and tag @DooleySchool54 and #54RuntoRead!  We can’t wait to see our families having fun and staying active while supporting the District 54 Foundation Crisis Fund.  Please see below for additional information about registering or donating.

We are excited to highlight Ms. Brandys’ 5th and 6th graders this week.  Students shared what they love about remote learning on a class Padlet.  We hope you enjoy reading some of their favorite things from the year!  Room 115 Padlet

Fall Conferences

We are excited for our students to share some highlights from the start of the year as well as some of their goals at our Fall conferences.  This year, all conferences will be held via Zoom on October 8th and 9th.    Dooley Fall Conference Sign Up

Pumpkins On Parade

Over the past couple of years, it has become a fun tradition for our students to decorate pumpkins with their classmates.  We enjoy seeing how creative our students can be, watching them collaborate, and taking time to view all of the pumpkins in our school.  While we cannot be together to decorate our pumpkins this year, we would thought it would be fun for families to participate in decorating pumpkins and bringing them to our school for viewing.  We encourage families to decorate a pumpkin together.  Pumpkins can be dropped off at the school on Thursday, October 8th anytime between 1:00 and 6:30. When dropping off your pumpkin, please have it in your trunk for a contactless pick up by a staff member.  We will display pumpkins on the perimeter of the school.  We encourage you to take a picture of your pumpkin and post it on our Pumpkin Padlet.  Viewing pumpkins on the Padlet is a safe way to see all pumpkins from the comfort of your home. Pumpkins will be discarded when they become mushy or when the squirrels begin to feast.

District 54 Virtual Run to Read Weekend: Sept. 25-27

The year 2020 has proven to be quite an unpredictable year for all of us. For the past 16 years, the District 54 Run to Read has been a race dedicated to promoting health and wellness for all ages. With that in mind, our 17th annual Run to Read is going virtual. Run or walk anytime from Sept. 25-27 and make sure to share your photos with us by using the hashtag #54Run2Read.

All money raised this year will be donated to the D54 Foundation Crisis Fund, to provide food and other necessary supplies to District 54 families who are struggling financially during this pandemic.

As in years past, you can choose from a variety of distances. Pick the distance that works for you and map out a route near your home. If walking is more your style, pick a distance and walk it instead.

Every registrant will receive a Tshirt and a medal. To receive the Tshirt before the event, please make sure to register by Sept. 8, 2020. Any orders received after Sept. 8 will be delivered to participants as soon as possible. Tshirts and medals will be shipped to your home.

For more information and to register, visit www.sd54.org/runtoread

Device Support

Our Technology Department has been working to support students and staff as we all learn and work remotely. We understand that some families are experiencing slow speeds or problems with their providers, and we ask you to report that directly to your provider.

People experiencing problems with District 54 technology (Chromebooks and iPads for students) should email [email protected] so that we can troubleshoot the problem via phone or email. If the problem cannot be resolved, we have a technology drop-off program. To schedule an appointment to drop off a broken laptop, iPad or other device, you must first email [email protected].  Please do not stop by without an appointment. By making an appointment, we can abide by the rules of social distancing and ensure we have a replacement device ready for you when you arrive.

Notes from the Nurse

Kindergarten and 6th grade parents, please remember to submit new physical exam and immunization records to the school no later than October 15th.  Parents can email these documents to Mrs. Johnson, [email protected], mail them to the school, or drop them off at the office by scheduling a time 847-357-6250.
