We are looking forward to seeing our students and families this Thursday as we kick off the 2021-2022 school year!
Students with Last Names A-L should attend from 4:30-5:30.
Students with Last Names M-Z should attend from 6:00-7:00
We ask that families join us in the front of the building (4:30 or 6:00) for staff introductions and our 2021-2022 welcome. After introductions are completed, we will have families enter thru the designated doors. Please see the map below. These are also the doors that students will use for arrival and dismissal, with the exception of our bus riders.
Supply drop off will be open house style, beginning after our whole staff welcome and introductions in the front of the school. Some things to look forward to include:
This year’s curriculum information will be recorded and shared with families on Thursday, August 12th.
Students and families are required to wear face masks when indoors. While outside, we ask families to wear a face mask when 3 feet distances are not adhered to. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation.

Please have your child(ren) line up in the classroom location assigned. Students should maintain safe distancing and wear a mask when on school grounds. Please note that supervision does not begin until 8:25 each morning. At the end of the day, students will exit the same door they entered. On inclement weather days, students will enter the nearest door. Students should only cross the street at the corner of Lowell Lane and Norwood Lane, while the crossing guard is present.
Buses will drop students off at the main entrance. Students will walk directly to their classrooms. Students should maintain safe distancing and wear a mask when on school grounds and when riding the bus. At the end of the day, students will exit their classroom when their bus number is announced. Please have your child attach their bus pass to their backpack. Please review your child’s pick up and drop off location and times prior to school starting. If your child has a change in pick up, please be sure to let us know.
Students will meet their teacher at their designated door. Teachers will be outside from 8:25 – 8:35. These areas will be congested, so we kindly ask that families wear masks. Bus riders will be brought to their class lines for the first day.

To keep students and staff in school, School District 54 will continue to implement many of the same prevention strategies this year that we implemented last year. In developing these strategies, we have always looked to the medical experts at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Illinois Department of Public Health, Cook County Department of Public Health and American Academy of Pediatrics. The mitigation strategies adopted by the School Board on August 4, 2021, align with the recommendations released by these organizations.
The prevention strategies outlined in this letter are subject to change based on updated guidance from the state, vaccination coverage levels in our community, or transmission levels within the school or community. These COVID-19 mitigation strategies are designed to help keep your children healthy and in school, but will not work without your support. We realize that many of these issues have become politicized and polarizing. None of this matters to us. We are laser-focused on the health and safety of our students, our staff and their families.
With your support we can re-engage with the best instructional practices including small group instruction, sharing of materials, movement throughout the day and opportunities for personal connection. We can also return to activities and events that enrich students’ school experiences including clubs, extracurriculars, athletics as well as school and PTA hosted events.
Should you have any additional questions, please refer to our website at sd54.org/covidfaq or contact your child’s school principal.
