Bailey and Sarah receiving awards for Japanese Speech Contest
6th Graders Bailey and Sarah received recognitions for their participation in the Japanese Language Speech Contest.

This week we started our ABC Celebration Calendar.  We loved seeing student and staff school spirit for Athletic Day and Color Day.  Students had fun on Thursday Breaking a Sweat!  We will continue the fun next week.  Please refer to the calendars that went home for more details.

Our highlight this week is Mrs. Rodriguez.   Mrs. Rodriguez is a support teacher at Dooley and works mostly with students in kindergarten thru third grades.  Students have been busy learning, collaborating, and having fun during acceleration!   We hope you enjoy Mrs. Rodriguez’ Highlight!

SEL Survey

District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional well-being. Similar to this winter, we are asking for your insight as a parent/guardian in creating the most well-rounded picture of your child’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 sent families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the D54 Social Emotional Learning Survey on Monday, April 18.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being. The deadline to complete the survey is May 6.

Band and Orchestra Enrollment for 4th and 5th Grade Students

During April, information about enrolling for band (trombone, trumpet, clarinet, flute) and orchestra (cello, viola, or violin) is being distributed to 4th and 5th grade students. Parents and students are invited to attend one of the enrollment meetings (below), where the instruments will be demonstrated and more information will be available. Parents and students should try to attend the meeting at their neighborhood junior high, but can attend whichever meeting works best:
·        Mead Junior High – Monday, April 25 (7:00 pm)
·        Eisenhower Junior High – Tuesday, April 26 (7:00 pm)
·        Addams Junior High – Wednesday, April 27 (7:00 pm)
·        Frost Junior High – Wednesday, April 27 (7:00 pm)
·        Keller Junior High – Wednesday, April 27 (7:00 pm)
No previous music experience is necessary to play an instrument. Band and orchestra lessons will start at the beginning of next school year.  If you have any questions, please visit sd54.org/instrumentenrollment or contact the band or orchestra teacher at your school.

Registration

Registration for the 2022-23 school year will open on Monday, March 28th through the Infinite Campus Portal.  Please login to review the current information and make any necessary changes.  If you do not have a portal account, you should have received an email on March 12th inviting you to create one.
As a reminder, all families are required to prove that they live within District 54 boundaries every year. If we are unable to verify your residency electronically, you will be receiving a letter by U.S. mail which will list the residency documents you can provide to the school office to complete your registration.

You are also able to pay the $50 consumable fee for 2022-23, as well as purchase milk and sign up for the instructional device insurance through the portal.  If you believe you will qualify for the Free Lunch Program in the 2022-23 school year, and therefore will receive a fee waiver, do not pay the consumable material fee now. Applications will be available in August for the Free Lunch Program.

Information about busing will be mailed the first week in June. Bus passes for those that qualify for free busing will be mailed to you in the beginning of August.
