It was nice to see many Dooley students and families at the Dooley & Hale Mindfulness Walk, supporting the District 54 Food Pantry. Thank you to Mrs. Chua for partnering with Hale school to organize this fun event.
Our spotlight this week is Mrs. Sylvia Kim. Mrs. Kim supports many students in small group reading and math instruction. We hope you enjoy reading Mrs. Kim’s Highlight!
Dear Dooley Families,
I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching another action packed school year with all of the children from Dooley Elementary School. As the end of our school year is approaching, it is that time to begin our planning for Field Day. Dooley’s Field Day is a day to celebrate all of the hard work and accomplishments that the students have achieved throughout the past school year. On Field Day, all of our students have the opportunity to participate in games and activities. Our Field Day has been a success in the past due to our devoted parents and Dooley volunteers.
Throughout the day, there are many games and activities stationed throughout the school for all of our students to participate in. Teachers and students rotate and are allotted a designated time at each station as the day progresses. In the past, parents have graciously volunteered their time to help manage the stations and to make this day as smooth as possible for all of the kids. Please know that parents will be facilitating the stations, so you would not be able to bring younger children with you.
This school year, Field Day will be Monday May 22, 2023. We also have a rain date on Thursday May 25, 2023 If you are interested in helping manage stations and games for students on Field Day please fill out the Google Form (below). If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me through phone or e-mail. Thank you and I look forward to seeing everyone on Field Day!
Sincerely,
Mr. pappas

District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the District 54 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey on Monday, April 17th. Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.
Mark your calendars…Celebrate Reading and Writing is on Wednesday, April 26th from 5:00-6:30. Families will have an opportunity to celebrate their child’s reading and writing accomplishments, spend time at the book fair, listen to guest readers, and enjoy ice cream!
During April, information about enrolling for band (trombone, trumpet, clarinet, flute) and orchestra (cello, viola, or violin) is being distributed to 4th grade students. Parents and students are invited to attend one of the enrollment meetings (below), where the instruments will be demonstrated and more information will be available. Parents and students should try to attend the meeting at their neighborhood junior high, but can attend whichever meeting works best:
Band and orchestra lessons will start at the beginning of next school year. If parents or students have any questions, they can visit sd54.org/instrumentenrollment or contact the band or orchestra teacher at their school. Students can enroll in the program by filling out the Enrollment Form by May 12th.
