Principal’s Message- August 23, 2019

Various classes lined up outside on the first day of school

It has been a fabulous first week for our first thru sixth graders!  Students have spent time making new friends, building positive classroom communities, and learning routines.  On Monday, we began our morning with an all school assembly, where we introduced this year’s theme:  Be the Change.  We talked about how each and every day we have the choice to be kind and make the world a better place. We listened to the story Say Something by Peter H. Reynolds and reflected on the message:

“Your voice can inspire, heal, and transform.  Your voice can change the world.  Are you ready to say something?”

-Peter H. Reynolds

Today we started our first ever Stop, Drop, and Gratitude.  Students entered classrooms to find a gratitude journal on their desk this morning.  As a building, we took 60 seconds to write a gratitude for the week.  Be sure to ask your child what their gratitude was today and every Friday!

If you believe your student will qualify for the Free Lunch Program and therefore will qualify for a fee waiver, do not pay the consumable material fee at this time. Applications for the Free Lunch Program are available online and in the school office.

The consumable fee will increase by $15 if payment is not received by November 15th, $25 if not received by February 1st, and $35 if not received by April 1st.

Principal’s Message- June 6, 2019

This last week of school is full of fun memories for our students. On Tuesday, students participated in Dooley’s field day activities. It started out rainy but turned out to be a beautiful day. Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered to help at this event and especially to Mrs. Ruggieri who coordinated activities for us. We could not have done it without the help of our parent community!

Ms. Velasco shared a beautiful video at our end of the year assembly that truly captured our story of positivity at Dooley.  Students enjoyed seeing many of the great moments we shared together. Today was bittersweet as our 6th grade students walked the halls for the final time at Dooley school.  We enjoyed taking pictures and celebrating their journeys at Dooley. We wish all of our 6th graders the best of luck as they move on to junior high.

On behalf of the entire Dooley staff, we would like to wish all of our families a wonderful summer break! We are proud of each of our students for the hard work, dedication, and kindness they demonstrated throughout the school year.  We would also like to thank you, our parent community, for your support and partnership throughout the year.

Although this week was short, it was filled with many fun events for staff and students. There was a great turn out today for Walk/Bike to School Day.  If your child lived too far to walk/bike to school, consider taking a walk or bike ride over the weekend. As summer approaches, now is a great time to talk to your child about bike safety.

The past two days, our students celebrated Nihon Day. They took a virtual reality trip to Mt. Fuji, listened to informative presentations from our 6th grade dual language student leaders, wrote post cards, and made crafts. Thank you to all of our students in Japanese Dance Club and Gassho Club who shared their talents at our kick off assembly, our 6th grade dual language students, and Mrs. Tufexis & Mrs. Abe for making this day a huge success for all!

Tuesday, June 4th is Field Day (rain date is June 5th). Please be sure your child has sunblock on before they leave for school and is dressed for the weather.  Students can bring their own sunblock to school for personal use throughout the day. Students will be playing in the field and should wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Plan to send your child with a water bottle labeled with their name, a hat and sunglasses, if needed.

Last Day of School

Due to the number of severe weather days when school was cancelled this year, the District 54 School Board officially set June 6, 2019 as the last day of school. This will be a half-day of school to make up for the half-day missed when school was cancelled Jan. 30. Students will be dismissed at 11:40 a.m. on June 6, 2019.

Join the D54 Foundation for 22nd annual golf outing

Want to make a difference in the lives of District 54 students? Join the District 54 Education Foundation for its 22nd annual golf outing on Monday, June 10 at the Schaumburg Golf Club.

All proceeds from the golf outing support District 54 breakfast programs, STEM programs and grants for students from financially struggling households. Please consider supporting District 54 children by becoming an event sponsor or golfing. The Foundation is also looking for raffle items and gift cards to award as prizes.

Visit d54foundation.org/golf-outing to sponsor, register or for more information. The Foundation was honored to be named Schaumburg’s Volunteer Organization of the Year for 2019 and we are excited to continue our work with this organization on behalf of students.

Principal’s Message- May 10, 2019

Today marks the end of teacher appreciation week and we could not be more thankful for the royal treatment we received from our students and parents this week. Teachers were showered with kind notes of appreciation all week. Our staff truly enjoyed breakfast, blizzards, treats, and a delicious sushi lunch this week! Thank you for your kind words and donations all week long.

This morning we had a great turn out for Dooley’s annual Muffins with Moms celebration. Thank you to all of our volunteers who helped with this event and to Mrs. Graham for all of her organization and preparation. We hope to continue this tradition next year and are looking for someone to chair this event. Please let us know if you are interested!
