We have had a busy week at Dooley. On Monday, each class read a story about the power of gratitude. After the story, students received gratitude letters from parents, family members, and staff. We discussed how good it felt to receive gratitude and encouraged students to continue sharing their own gratitude. We know this kindness will spread positivity in our community. Check out the video on Twitter!
Additionally, we spent Giving Tuesday, with many Dooley families at Feed My Starving Children. Together, we packed over 15,000 meals! Thank you to our PTA for organizing this event and thank you to our many volunteers.
As a reminder, the new parking changes are in effect. Please be sure to read signs on Lowell and Norwood Lanes before parking. These changes will ensure our buses have enough space and prevent students and parents from crossing in the middle of the street. The only safe place for students and guardians to cross is at the designated crosswalk, where Mr. Dennis, our crossing guard is located. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to keep our students safe. Please see below for the detailed map.
Throughout the month of November, Mr. Musselman, the assistant principal at Jane Addams Junior High has visited the elementary feeder schools in preparation for next school year. Sixth grade students received an overview of a typical day in junior high, learned about the different elective course options and extracurricular opportunities, and had an opportunity to have their questions answered. Next year’s scheduling is around the corner, and the 7th grade elective selection window will be opening up in the IC parent portal Friday, December 2nd. Please be on the lookout for an email from Mr. Bingen, Jane Addams Principal, with details on the selection process and the upcoming 6th grade parent night, which will be held on Wednesday, December 14th. In addition to helping the students adjust, the parent night will provide information about your child’s school for next year. For our Dual Language and Chinese Immersion families, there will be a presentation beforehand that will provide specific information about the program your child is enrolled in.
Winter NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing continues next week. All students take one reading and one math assessment. We know that this data point, along with other data gathered in the classrooms can help us to better understand how students are progressing and how to best support them. Thank you for your continued support at home to ensure your child can do their best and show their learning. We are excited to see the growth of our Dooley Dragons!
The Village of Schaumburg has approved changes in parking on Lowell Lane and Norwood Lane. Traffic can be congested on these streets with cars and buses. The changes in parking can ensure traffic flow is smooth and the safety of our students is prioritized. These changes went into effect on November 21st. Please see the image below to familiarize yourself with the adjustments.
Each year, the Department of Language and Culture, along with the Schaumburg Park District, presents a Multicultural Event that showcases the diversity represented by the students of District 54. We are looking for groups and individual students who are interested in performing at this year’s event on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Applications will be accepted through December 2.
