USA Flag Art project
Students are preparing for Veterans Day in art classes. Mariela’s flag is featured above.

Thank you to all of our volunteers who planned and facilitated classroom parties on Monday.  Students had fun dressing up, parading through the neighborhood and playing games with their classmates.

This week’s highlight is Ms. Serna’s 4th grade classroom. In addition to Halloween festivities, students had fun during spirit week and enjoyed presenting Shark Tank pitches to their peers. We hope you enjoy the  Room 225 Highlight!

In our school assembly today, students learned about the benefits of gratitude.  This happiness tactic is designed to get our brains to begin to scan the world for appreciation.  We will take time each day in November to write about what we are thankful for.  We encourage you to keep this conversation going at home.  Additionally, we are working on a special gratitude project that requires participation from ALL of our parents/guardians.  Please see below for these important details as we work to create a very special PEAK moment for all of our Dooley students.

As a reminder, Monday, November 7th and Tuesday, November 8th are student non-attendance days.  Enjoy the long weekend!

Secret Gratitude Project – Your help is needed

We need your help!  Parents and guardians, we kindly ask that you write a letter of gratitude to your student(s).  We are planning to deliver kindness notes in November and would like every child to have a letter of gratitude written to them from their parent, guardian, or other special relative.  This is a SECRET project…so please do not share the details with your child.  There are a few ways you can get your letter to our school:

  • Send the letter to school with your child.  Write a letter and place it in a sealed envelope, labeled with your child’s name, room number, and the heading School Gratitude Project.  Have your child turn in the envelope to the teacher.
  • Write your letter in an email to your child’s teacher.  Teachers can then print out the letters and place them in envelopes. Include the heading School Gratitude Project in the subject line.
  • Hand deliver your letter to our main office, labeled with your child’s name, room number, and the heading School Gratitude Project.

All letters are due by Monday, November 14th.  If you need paper or envelopes, let us know!  We hope you have fun with this project, as we know how special each student will feel when they receive a letter of gratitude from their family.

Parking changes

The Village of Schaumburg has approved changes in parking on Lowell Lane and Norwood Lane.  Traffic can be congested on these streets with cars and buses.  The changes in parking can ensure traffic flow is smooth and the safety of our students is prioritized.  These changes will go into effect on November 21st.  Please see the image below to familiarize yourself with the adjustments.

Veterans Day Concert: 3rd & 4th Grades

Our 3rd and 4th graders are so excited about their upcoming “Thank a Veteran” concert!  It will be at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th.  This year we are having the concert at Mead Junior High in Elk Grove.  We will also be having a Patriotic craft sale, which includes patriotic origami, magnets, necklaces, ribbons, etc.  These crafts were made in art class with Mrs. Thomas!  All proceeds will go to Honor Flight Chicago!  This is a very noble and respected organization that spreads awareness of the gratitude we owe our Veterans.  They fly Veterans to Washington D.C. for the day, to visit all the war memorials that have been created in their honor.  This is at no cost to the Veteran; it is paid for by donations that Honor Flight Chicago receives!

All our welcome to attend this Patriotic concert!  If you know a Veteran, please invite him/her also!  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Conrad.
