Photo of decorated pumpkins

Our pumpkins are on parade!  We encourage you to take a look at the many creative pumpkins outside our main entrance.  Students worked collaboratively last week to decorate pumpkins in their homerooms as they celebrated reaching their PBIS goal.

A friendly reminder that there is no outside supervision until 8:25 each morning.  Students who are playing at the park must have an adult with them until they head inside at 8:25.  Parents, please be sure not to cross your child in the middle of the street.  We have lots of traffic and it is dangerous.  All parents and students should use the crosswalk.

Our class highlight this week is Ms. Umemori’s dual language classroom.  Students worked on writing about places to visit in Japanese.  The photo below highlights some of their work.

Anderson’s Animal Walk-A-Thon

Ms. Velasco, Mr. Pappas and Mrs. Thomas took donations to Anderson Animal Shelter this week.  We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our community and know that these supplies will help our furry friends.

Erin’s Law

Erin’s Law lessons will take place in the next couple of weeks.  A letter went home with your child this week.  Classroom teachers will share with you what day their students will participate in this lesson.

Halloween

Dooley’s Halloween celebration will take place on the afternoon of Monday, October 31st. Students should bring their costumes to school on that day. Costumes must go over their clothing.

We will have a costume parade that begins at 1:15 p.m., weather permitting.  We will parade outside of the building exiting the front doors, down Norwood Street to Bradford and back to the school.  Parents are welcome to watch our parade from the designated area outside the front of the school OR line up along Norwood Street.  Our staff and students enjoy spectators along the route.

Halloween is a fun and special time of year for many children.  In order to ensure the safety and well-being of our children, please keep in mind the following considerations:  Weapons and ‘look alike’ weapons are prohibited, Refrain from costumes that depict violence (no fake blood or gore, please).

A party arranged by the PTA Halloween party planners and helpers will take place following the parade in classrooms.  Only party planners and party helpers who are assigned to support in classrooms will be allowed in the building during parties.

Dismissal for Monday, October 31st  will be at the regular time (3:00 p.m.).  Students will not be expected to change clothes prior to their departure.  We appreciate your support in following these guidelines so Halloween is enjoyable for all.

To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the District 54 Personal Assessment of Core Competency (previously called the SEL Survey) on Monday, October 3rd.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.
