This week we would like to highlight Ms. Umemori’s 4th grade dual language classroom. Students created slides to share about their Japanese writing project and time in specials. We hope you enjoy reading the Room 222 Highlight!
For the safety of our students we ask that families only cross the street at the designated crosswalk. Please see below for information about our Halloween Costume Parade, which will take place on October 29th.

Attention 5th and 6th graders!
Wouldn’t it be fun to make a gift for someone you love, and practice Japanese at the same time? Well, we have just the club for you! Amimono is knitting in Japanese. Knitting is when you take a ball of yarn, two needles and by twisting the yarn together can make all sorts of wonderful things! And in our club, we will be learning and practicing some basic Japanese! So, if you think this just might be the club for you, ask your parents to fill out the form and bring it back to your homeroom teacher by Monday, Oct. 18.
Club dates: Oct. 21st, 28th, Nov. 4th, 11th, 18th, Dec 3rd

Dooley’s Halloween celebration will take place on the afternoon of Friday, October 29th Students must bring their costumes to school on that day. Costumes must go over their clothing, as we will not be permitting students to change in the restrooms due to limited space.
We will have a costume parade that begins at 1:15 p.m., weather permitting. Students and staff will parade outside of the building exiting the front doors, down Norwood Street to Bradford and back to the school. Parents are welcome to watch our parade from the designated area outside the front of the school OR line up along Norwood Street. Our staff and students enjoy spectators along the route. We ask that families wear masks when viewing the parade, if not able to maintain 6 feet distancing outside.
Halloween is a fun and special time of year for many children. In order to ensure the safety and well-being of our children, please keep in mind the following considerations:
A party arranged by the PTA Halloween party planners and helpers will take place following the parade in classrooms. Only party planners and party helpers who are assigned to support in classrooms will be allowed in the building during parties.
Dismissal for Friday, October 29th will be at the regular time (3:00 p.m.). Students will not be expected to change clothes prior to their departure. We appreciate your support in following these guidelines so Halloween is enjoyable for all.
We still have some great opportunities to participate in class parties.
· Room Party Parent: From home position that corresponds with Parent Volunteers and provides reimbursement for expenses from the party budget.
· Party Volunteer: In Person: Work with 3 other parents to provide games and crafts for the class for your date/party. (Classes have one parent plan the party, or have 4 parents collaborate and each take ownership for 1-2 crafts, games, etc)
· sign up at: https://bit.ly/3yG8QIr
· Reminder: All parents participating in person will need to provide a Negative Covid Test or Proof of vaccination to our Ast. Principal Logan Walther: [email protected]

Again, this year, we will be implementing a child sexual abuse prevention program in our schools as the result of the passage of Public Act 097-1147, also known as Erin’s Law. This law expanded upon previous legislation and required child sexual abuse prevention education for children beginning in pre-kindergarten and continuing through all grade levels. Our students will be participating in lessons in their classrooms over the next several weeks. If you have any specific questions, please contact the main office. A letter with more specifics about this law can be found here. Erin’s Law LetterErin’s Law Letter, Japanese
District 54 is offering free COVID-19 SHIELD drive-up testing to all students and staff. Please note that ANY student or staff member can get a test regardless of their participation in the weekly SHIELD surveillance testing. Please note:
Testing is available all school days from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at School District 54 – Rafferty Administration Center located at 524 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. More information can be found by clicking on the SHIELD Testing Flyer.
With suburban Cook County now in a level of high community transmission of COVID-19 (Cook County Department of Public Health), District 54 has decided to create COVID Dashboards on each school’s website to provide families and staff with a transparent summary of instances of COVID-19 reported to District 54. A positive case indicates that the student or staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. Please report cases of COVID-19 to our school so that we can initiate contact tracing. Parents/guardians of students identified as close contacts will be contacted directly to discuss next steps. District 54 will update these dashboards by 3 p.m. on Fridays when school is in session.
