Kids running in Turkey Trot

We had fun at our annual Turkey Trot.  Thank you to Mr. Pappas for organizing this event for our students and thank you to our student runners.  Many non-perishable donations were collected for the food pantry.  Donations will be delivered on Tuesday.

Our class highlight this week is Ms. Hernandez’ 3rd grade dual language classroom.  Students are especially happy about their new monitor! It was a fun week as they finished their “sibling” writing, had a library visit, and compared two cities based on their weather climates. We hope you enjoy the Room 223 Highlight

Parking Changes

The Village of Schaumburg has approved changes in parking on Lowell Lane and Norwood Lane.  Traffic can be congested on these streets with cars and buses.  The changes in parking will ensure traffic flow is smooth and the safety of our students is prioritized.  These changes will go into effect on November 21st.  Please see the image below to familiarize yourself with the adjustments.

Halloween

Dooley’s Halloween celebration will take place on the afternoon of Monday, October 31st. Students should bring their costumes to school on that day.  Costumes must go over their clothing.

We will have a costume parade that begins at 1:15 p.m., weather permitting.  We will parade outside of the building exiting the front doors, down Norwood Street to Bradford and back to the school.  Parents are welcome to watch our parade from the designated area outside the front of the school OR line up along Norwood Street.  Our staff and students enjoy spectators along the route.

Halloween is a fun and special time of year for many children.  In order to ensure the safety and well-being of our children, please keep in mind the following considerations: weapons and ‘look alike’ weapons are prohibited; refrain from costumes that depict violence (no fake blood or gore).

A party arranged by the PTA Halloween party planners and helpers will take place following the parade in classrooms.  Only party planners and party helpers who are assigned to support in classrooms will be allowed in the building during parties.

Dismissal for Monday, October 31st  will be at the regular time (3:00 p.m.).  Students will not be expected to change clothes prior to their departure.  We appreciate your support in following these guidelines so Halloween is enjoyable for all.

No Food Seliveries

As a reminder, with a focus on student and staff safety, District 54 will not allow food delivery services (including, but not limited to, GrubHub, DoorDash, and local restaurants) to our schools. We will continue to have hot lunch days, which are planned events, organized and supervised by school or PTA volunteers. However, we will no longer accept other outside food deliveries to keep our schools secure.

2022 Personal Assessment of Core Competency

District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the District 54 Personal Assessment of Core Competency (previously called the SEL Survey) on Monday, October 3rd.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.
