Photo of students' one word projects

We had a wonderful week welcoming students back after winter break.  On Monday, we kicked off 2023 with a school assembly. Students made commitments for a positive year and listened to Mr. Pappas and Mrs. Boyd read, One Word for Kids, by Jon Gordon. In classrooms this week each student chose their ‘one word’ for the year.  We have enjoyed hearing kids talk about their word and seeing so many inspiring words posted in the hallways. Determination, generous, try, proud, and brave are just a few of the words students chose.  We encourage you to ask your child about their word for 2023 and the steps they can take to make their word a reality.

As a reminder, there is no school on Monday, January 16th.  We hope our families enjoy the three day weekend!

SEL Survey

District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the District 54 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey on Monday, January 9th.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.

PTA Baskets

Our PTA is coordinating auction baskets/items for the Schaumburg Township Council of PTAs and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Each year the Schaumburg Township Council of PTA’s offers college scholarships to former District 54 students, and summer experience scholarships to current students.  The funds to support these scholarships are raised during our annual Silent/Live Auction event.  Each of the 28 schools are asked to contribute.

Since all our students can benefit from the scholarship funds offered by the STC (visit http://pta.sd54.org for application), we are asking the entire school for donations (but make sure to to join our school’s PTA so you can apply for the scholarship).  We have given examples of donations below, or we welcome a Target or Walmart gift card that can be used to purchase items.  Donations are tax deductible (please contact Nicole Lacy for donation letter).

Thank you for your help!!

All items need to be received prior to January 28th.  Please coordinate donations with auction chair, Nicole Lacy [email protected]

*gift cards or cash donations

*new, unopened items such as family board games and art supplies.

*If you have a business we would love to highlight it either with a product or service donation (with your business named on the auction platform)

*If you have a talent/skill please consider donating that service to the auction (for example a zoom class teaching cooking, crafting, fitness, etc)
