January 22, 2024

We were thrilled to have our Dooley Family back together this week! Our students continued to focus on setting goals and reflecting on how they can use their own superpowers to make it a great year. It was a short week but a great one!

Our staff highlight this week is Mrs. Sanders 1st grade class. We hope you enjoy reading all about Room 106!

Have a SUPER weekend!

2024 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey

District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the D54 Social Emotional Learning Survey on Monday, January 8th and will close on Friday, January 26th.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.

Snowy and Cold Weather

As the weather turns colder and we have snow on the ground, please consider sending your child (ren) with snow gear. If students bring snow gear they will have the option of playing in the field during outdoor recess. Students that do not have gear will be encouraged to stay out of the snow so they do not get wet/cold.

A Note from Nurse Johnson

Here are a few reminders as flu and other viruses begin to circulate.
-Please keep your child home for 24 hours until they are fever free without the use of fever-reducing meds. Vomiting/diarrhea must have ceased for 24 hours.
-If your child is diagnosed with strep throat or pink eye, they may return to school after 24 hours on antibiotics as long as symptoms are improving and they are fever-free.
-Students testing covid positive should stay home for 5 days from the onset of symptoms. IDPH suggests wearing a mask for 5 additional days.
-Although coughs often linger, they should be under control before returning to school. A mask is available in the health office if needed.
-Children who have a fever of 100 degrees F or higher as well as a child who vomits or has diarrhea during the school day will be sent home.
Please be certain that your contact numbers are current and that you call Dooley’s attendance line to report your child’s absence 847-357-6250. Your partnership is greatly appreciated!

Dental Clinic

There is a State of Illinois law which requires all students in kindergarten, second, and sixth grade to have a dental examination by May 15th of the school year.  The dental exam may be dated up to 18 months prior to May 15, 2024 (dated no earlier than 11/15/2022).
An opportunity to meet this requirement as well as receive low cost dental care for your child at any grade level is available through the Smile Illinois Dental Program. They are currently setting up mobile dental clinics throughout SD 54. Campanelli School is the clinic site for both Dooley and Campanelli families.  This one day clinic will be offering dental services on 1/29/2024 during school hours. An appointment time will be scheduled. (parents must provide transportation)
In order to participate in these services you must complete online registration or contact the Dooley school office for a paper copy.  Please visit the SMILE ILLINOIS website for more information including online registration WWW.MySchoolDentist.com
If you have any questions regarding this program or online registration please call 888-833-8441. Don’t miss this great opportunity to promote your child’s dental health.

Volunteers Needed for Multicultural Event

Each year, the Department of Language and Culture, along with the Schaumburg Park District, presents a Multicultural Event that showcases the diversity represented by the students of District 54. One of the highlights of the event is the opportunity for students and their families to learn about other cultures by playing games, completing crafts, and participating in other activities. We are looking for families who are interested in volunteering to plan and facilitate an activity that represents their culture at this year’s event on Saturday, March 2, 2024. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete an Activity Volunteer Interest Form by January 26, 2024. We will also be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, January 22nd at 3:45 p.m. at Mead Jr. High.

Coffee and Conversation

You are invited to join us on February 7, 2024 from 5-6 p.m. as District 54’s Multicultural Parent Advisory Council presents a session for parents on “Supporting Your Student’s Learning at Home“. Join us as we discuss how parents can partner with the schools to help their students continue to grow as learners. We will also explore different strategies and resources for navigating homework and the learning process. To sign up for the session, please contact Barbara Velez (847) 357-5074.
