It was another great week at Dooley School! We continue to be amazed by our students’ dedication to their individual and school goals. We’re excited to start the month of February with our Dooley Glimmer activity. Please see below for more information. We can’t wait to hear all of the great news our students have to share!

Our staff highlight this week is Miss Giammarese’s Kindergarten Class. We hope you enjoy reading all about Room 101!

February Dooley GLIMMERS

It certainly feels like winter outside, but Dooley school is glimmering with Happiness inside! During the month of February, our students will be writing down their GLIMMER OF THE DAY on a small note with the hopes of sharing this positive news with their family and doubling the great feelings that were experienced during the school day. We encourage you to talk with your child/children about their GLIMMER OF THE DAY. Some ideas for collecting and sharing glimmers in your home throughout the month of February include:

  • Collecting glimmer notes in a jar or bowl and sharing them with your family each day or at the end of the week
  • Collecting glimmer notes on a poster and displaying this in your home

We can’t wait to hear about the creative ideas you come up with as a family!

2024 Personal Assessment of Core Competency Survey-Deadline TODAY!

District 54 is committed to ensuring not only the academic success of each child, but also their social-emotional wellbeing. Your insight as a parent/guardian is essential in creating the most well rounded picture of your student’s strengths and opportunities for growth. To gather your perspective, District 54 will send families of students in grades 3-8 an email link for each child to the D54 Social Emotional Learning Survey on Monday, January 8th and will close on Friday, January 26th.  Thank you in advance for participating in this survey, as we believe the home-school collaboration is critical to best support your child’s overall well-being.

Dental Clinic

There is a State of Illinois law which requires all students in kindergarten, second, and sixth grade to have a dental examination by May 15th of the school year.  The dental exam may be dated up to 18 months prior to May 15, 2024 (dated no earlier than 11/15/2022).
An opportunity to meet this requirement as well as receive low cost dental care for your child at any grade level is available through the Smile Illinois Dental Program. They are currently setting up mobile dental clinics throughout SD 54. Campanelli School is the clinic site for both Dooley and Campanelli families.  This one day clinic will be offering dental services on 1/29/2024 during school hours. An appointment time will be scheduled. (parents must provide transportation)
In order to participate in these services you must complete online registration or contact the Dooley school office for a paper copy.  Please visit the SMILE ILLINOIS website for more information including online registration www.myschooldentist.com.
If you have any questions regarding this program or online registration please call 888-833-8441. Don’t miss this great opportunity to promote your child’s dental health.

After completing the online portion of your student’s kindergarten registration, please call our school to make an appointment to turn in necessary documents. If you can, bring your future kindergartner with you, as we have a special surprise for them!
District 54 is also asking for your help in spreading the word about kindergarten registration. If you know of a child who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2024, please encourage the family to register today by visiting the sd54.org/kindergarten website.
