International Dot Day graphic

This week we are excited to highlight is Ms. Meservey’s 5th and 6th grade class.  Students utilized Padlet to share their favorite parts of remote learning this year.  We enjoyed seeing their smiles and hearing all of the amazing things happening in room 117!   Room 117 Highlight

As a reminder, there is no school on Wednesday, September 16th, due to teacher remote planning and professional development.  We are excited that District 54 will celebrate our first ever International Dot Day on Wednesday, September 16th.  This day began from the book The Dot by well-known author Peter H. Reynolds.  His book, The Dot, celebrates creativity, collaboration and bravery and encourages us to “Make our Mark” no matter how small we start!  Although this is a student non-attendance day, activities and ideas will be shared across all grade levels and all buildings district wide. Our school will also have a Padlet where students can share a picture, post or video of their creation or act.  You’ll be able to access the interactive link for activities next Wednesday, September 16th. We hope you’ll join us and share how YOU decide to make YOUR mark and share YOUR creativity!  We can’t wait to see where these ideas take YOU!

District 54 Virtual Run to Read Weekend: Sept. 25-27

The year 2020 has proven to be quite an unpredictable year for all of us. For the past 16 years, the District 54 Run to Read has been a race dedicated to promoting health and wellness for all ages. With that in mind, our 17th annual Run to Read is going virtual. Run or walk anytime from Sept. 25-27 and make sure to share your photos with us by using the hashtag #54Run2Read.

All money raised this year will be donated to the D54 Foundation Crisis Fund, to provide food and other necessary supplies to District 54 families who are struggling financially during this pandemic.

As in years past, you can choose from a variety of distances. Pick the distance that works for you and map out a route near your home. If walking is more your style, pick a distance and walk it instead.

Every registrant will receive a Tshirt and a medal. To receive the Tshirt before the event, please make sure to register by Sept. 8, 2020. Any orders received after Sept. 8 will be delivered to participants as soon as possible. Tshirts and medals will be shipped to your home.

Device Support

Our Technology Department has been working to support students and staff as we all learn and work remotely. We understand that some families are experiencing slow speeds or problems with their providers, and we ask you to report that directly to your provider.

People experiencing problems with District 54 technology (Chromebooks and iPads for students) should email [email protected] so that we can troubleshoot the problem via phone or email. If the problem cannot be resolved, we have a technology drop-off program. To schedule an appointment to drop off a broken laptop, iPad or other device, you must first email [email protected].  Please do not stop by without an appointment. By making an appointment, we can abide by the rules of social distancing and ensure we have a replacement device ready for you when you arrive.

Notes from the Library

If you still have books that were not returned at the end of last year, please drop them off at Dooley at your earliest convenience.

Notes from the Nurse

Kindergarten and 6th grade parents, please remember to submit new physical exam and immunization records to the school no later than October 15th.  Parents can email these documents to Mrs. Johnson, [email protected], mail them to the school, or drop them off at the office by scheduling a time 847-357-6250.
